Tucked away in the Amsterdam harbour area lies Ruigoord, a green artists' village and the oldest cultural free haven (vrijplaats) of the Netherlands. Artists have worked here since 1973 in studios and workspaces, with a strong tradition of collaboration, also with a wide circle of kindred creative spirits at home and abroad. Together the Ruigoorders organise gatherings where music, poetry, art, nature, magic and ritual meet, including Landjuweel, Vurige Tongen, Solstice, Openbare Werken, Het Ballonnenfeest, the Trance Orient Express and Maanzin. Visitors are welcome: just come and have a look.
